The holiday season is upon us and some of you have been invited to the ever so popular: Ugly Christmas Sweater party. Well if you don’t have an ugly holiday sweater hanging in your closet, I suggest you do a little DIYing and make one. Of course, perusing the racks in second-hand stores is always an option, but I found making my own, was cost effective as well as fun.
I thumbed through Pinterest to see if anything struck my fancy. I was making one for my husband and he is a bit hum-buggish when it comes to these kinds of things; it had to be a little “manly”. I stumbled upon a photo of sweater that had a bit of a “cool” vibe to it. I decided to try my hand at it and do it myself.
I went to party city and bought a small stuffed elf with long arms for $5.99. I then went to K-Mart and bought a dark blue men’s sweatshirt for $7.99. Armed with a needle and thread I sewed the stuffed elf onto the front of the sweatshirt. I pawed through a mish mash of crafty supplies on the bottom of my laundry closet and found a bottle of Tacky Glue (fabric glue) and assorted pom-poms. In the bottom of the bag, I also found some glitter. I hand stitched the pom-poms around the neck of the sweatshirt and wrote “CHEERS” next to the stuffed elf with the Tacky Glue. I sprinkled leftover glitter onto the glue letters and waited for them to dry. Next, I pulled out a can of Coors Lite out of the fridge and had my husband empty it down his throat. I rinsed out the can and dried it off. My hot glue gun was ready so I glued the elf’s arms around the beer can. WhaaLa!! An ugly Christmas sweater is born! Check out my pics. Oh by the way, when my husband wore it, he was the man!
